Melanie Hoad

Mel leads the legal, enterprise risk and compliance functions for CNA Canada, partnering with the broader Global organization. Melanie has extensive insurance experience beginning in private practice with a focus on insurance defense litigation before joining a large multinational insurer as House Litigation Counsel and then Global Litigation – Coverage Counsel.  Melanie joined CNA in 2019 as AVP, Legal Counsel and has continued to broadening her skill set acting as CNA Canada’s Compliance and Privacy Officer and now most recently in 2023 adding the Enterprise Risk function to her role. Melanie has over 20 years of legal experience, using that to partner closely with the business to advise on all legal and compliance matters to support the continued growth of the Canadian business.

Melanie graduated from McGill University with a Bachelor of Arts, English Major and holds her LL.B Law from Western University. She also holds her CIP from the Insurance Institute of Canada. Melanie speaks at a number of industry events across various sectors, is part of the WICC Golf Committee and an active participant in the Capes for Kids, Holland Bloorview Kids Rehab Hospital Fundraiser.
